Café Du Monde

Chicory is the heart to this distinctly flavorful coffee. The root of the endive plant is roasted and ground, then added to the ground coffee. This practice first gained popularity during the civil war when rationing made coffee a high commodity and chicory was considered adequate filler.
Mello Joy
Coined “the original Cajun coffee,” Mello Joy Coffee is located in the heart of Acadiana. Created in 1936, Mello Joy quickly grew in popularity with the Cajun community to become the most popular roast. In 1976, much to the disappointment of its fans, Mello Joy was sold to a large national company. The brand was phased out, only to be renewed in 2000 by new ownership with a vision in mind for the beloved coffee.
Since 2000 Mello Joy has grown and can be found throughout Louisiana, and in grocery stores in Mississippi and Texas. The “original Cajun coffee” can also be purchased online from the Mello Joy website.
